Just great for Oldham RL!

A RECORD Whitebank crowd for a league game watched Oldham beat Barrow 32-26 to open up a two-point lead at the top of Championship One.

The attendance of 1,114 was the best since a play-off tie against York City Knights pulled in 1,275 in September, 2010.

“It was a great turn-out, a great game, a great win and great weather . . . it doesn't come much better than that," said delighted club chairman Chris Hamilton.

Roughyeds doubled their recent average to turn back the clock to 2010.

Hamilton added: “I would like to thank fans for supporting us in such numbers.

“Hopefully, they will have enjoyed the game and will want to come again for the rematch in the Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth round in a fortnight.”

Before then, Roughyeds go to Rochdale on Friday (1pm kick-off) for the traditional Easter derby.

No new injuries were reported, but it is too early to know whether Neil Roden will have a chance of returning to action after missing the Barrow game with a back strain.

The reserves play York at Whitebank on Thursday (8pm kick-off).
