Something special!

OLDHAM’S plum home tie against St Helens in the fifth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup may be switched to the Saints’ new stadium at Langtree Park.

Playing the Super League outfit at Whitebank is NOT an option.

Explained Roughyeds’ chief Chris Hamilton: “One of the RFL’s conditions in allowing us to play at Whitebank was that we would have to move any home tie against Super League opposition in the Challenge Cup to another ground. That applies until we have improved the facilities.”

The two clubs were meeting today to make all necessary arrangements.

Oldham’s chairman added: “The possibility of playing at Langtree Park is one of the things we'll be discussing.

“A tie like this is reward for the superb performance the players put in to beat Barrow Raiders in the last round. Saints is one of the clubs we would have chosen.

“It's also something special for our fans.”

Saints brought a team of mixed ability and experience to Whitebank for a pre-season warm-up game in January — which Oldham won.

From a shared gate, Roughyeds hope to have a lucrative pay day.

Oldham coach Tony Benson said: “It’s a fabulous draw. The players will love taking on some of the sport’s biggest names and our club should get a decent cheque out of it.”

Ties are to be played over the weekend of April 27 to 29.

One will be shown live on Sky Sport, another BBC Sport the next afternoon.
