Fan runs to Oldham’s aid

OLDHAM RL fan John Davies will put his body on the line to raise money for his beloved Roughyeds.
John (41) will run in the Bupa Manchester 10K on Sunday, May 20 with all his sponsorship money going to the Supporters’ Association's Squad Strengthener Fund.
“I normally run for a national charity,” he said. “But this year I was so impressed with how the lads went about their Challenge Cup tie at St Helens that I thought this was my chance to put something back into the club I have supported since 1982.”
Fans pledged £250 at the game against North Wales Crusaders on Sunday and John is hoping to get a lot more before he does the run.
He and his 10-year-old son Luke, who live in Audenshaw, are season-ticket holders at Whitebank.
Nigel Marland, chairman of ORSA, said: “This is a magnificent gesture by John. Hopefully, fellow fans will sponsor him so that ORSA can further support the club financially.”
Fans are asked to make cheques payable to ORSA and send them to the John Davies Squad Strengthener Appeal, c/o 115, Stoneleigh Street, Oldham OL1 4LF or hand them in at the club office in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton.
