Winger loan deal

Date published: 27 June 2012

Swinton Lions winger Rob Foxen has joined Oldham on a month’s loan.

The 24-year-old former Folly Lane and Salford City Reds academy player will be in contention for an early debut at Whitehaven on Sunday (3pm).

Roughyeds have three games in the next month — against Whitehaven, London Skolars at home and South Wales Scorpions away.

Oldham chairman Chris Hamilton said: “He’s strong and aggresive with plenty of experience, and he’ll certainly take us forward.”

Foxen can play in the forwards, but he is known to prefer the wing.

While Foxen was on his way into the Roughyeds’ camp, Lewis Reed was on his way out. When his initial loan from Keighley Cougars was up after a month he was re-signed match-by-match, but Cougars have now recalled him.

Leeds Rhinos pair Colton Roche and Daniel Smith will be with the Roughyeds at training tomorrow and available to be selected in the squad for Whitehaven this weekend.

Winger Terry Bridge, sent down last November for drugs-related offences, has served his sentence and returned to the team. He played his first game for several months in the reserve side’s 16-8 defeat at Keighley last Thursday and he is expected to keep his place on the left wing when the under-23s play York City Knights at Whitebank tomorrow (kick-off 7.45pm).
