Roughyeds in Sneyd swoop

WATERHEAD’S Carl Sneyd has signed for Oldham in a surprise move.
The ex-Rochdale and Swinton player will debut for the reserves at Whitebank tonight (7.45pm) in a top-three clash with unbeaten Featherstone Rovers.
Sneyd (25) will form a new centre partnership with his long-time friend Mark Brocklehurst, who is temporarily in charge of the Roughyeds second team during coach Paul Ashton's pre-arranged absence.
Brocklehurst and Sneyd were together at Waterhead as juniors and later at Rochdale as young professionals.
“Carl will be with us to the end of the season,” said Brocklehurst. Formalities were completed last night when Brocklehurst named this side to take on the runaway leaders:
Threequarters Callum Mulkeen and Joe Mulhearn, who played well in the 54-22 win at Sheffield last Saturday, are unavailable tonight because they are playing for Ireland at the weekend.
Craig Noone is unavailable and Alex Thompson is back with the first team.
Their replacements are Sneyd, Matty Foreman, Mark Thomas and Jamie Acton.
Brocklehurst added: “We are in third place with three to play, including games against the top two. We can’t catch Featherstone, but we have set our sights firmly on finishing second.”
At senior level, Paul Noone has recovered from a foot injury — a boost for coach Tony Benson ahead of Sunday's game away to South Wales Scorpions.
It will be Rob Foxen’s last game under the agreement with Swinton, but Roughyeds are hoping to get an extension. Similar talks are continuing with Leeds Rhinos about Colton Roche and Daniel Smith, whose agreements expire at the end of the month.
