Roughyeds Mul it over
Date published: 02 August 2012
WINGER Callum Mulkeen and centre Joe Mulhearn are back from international duty with Ireland for the Oldham RL reserve team's important clash with Championship side Halifax at the Shay tonight (8pm).
Paul Ashton's men need to win by 14 points to clinch second place in the division behind runaway leaders Featherstone Rovers and earn home advantage in a 2 v 3 play-off for the right to go to Post Office Road in the championship final.
Halifax go into the game two points ahead of Oldham, needing only one more win to clinch second place and take it out of the Roughyeds' reach.
Said Oldham coach Ashton: "It would be great to finish second, like we did last year before going on to beat Widnes in the final, but if we want to get there tonight we've a big task ahead of us.
"Tonight's game is Halifax's last and we've still to go to bottom-club York, but if we were to lose at The Shay the most we could hope for would be a third-place finish and a return visit to Halifax in the play-off.”
