Oldham roar into final

WINGER John Gillam scored twice in the second half as Oldham won 18-12 to qualify for Saturday’s RL reserve team Under-23s Championship final at Featherstone (5.30pm).
Centre Steve Nield opened the scoring in the play-off at Halifax with a try just before half time - then added a touchline goal to give Roughyeds a 6-0 interval lead.
On the same ground a week earlier, Roughyeds were beaten 34-4 in the last league game - but they turned it round superbly to storm into the final for the second year in a row.
Roughyeds led 8-6 before Gillam struck for the first time and Nield again nailed his conversion off the touchline.
The home side cut Oldham’s lead to 14-12, but the visitors replied with Gillam’s second try.
The reserves’ presentation night, sponsored by Spindles, is at Whitebank on Friday, September 7 (7.30pm). Tickets at £5 are on sale at the club’s Lansdowne Road office in Chadderton, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
