Roden’s call to players

MARTIN Roden has challenged his Oldham RL side to tackle like they’ve never tackled before against Workington at Whitebank on Sunday.

Roughyeds have let in 16 tries in two games — eight at Barrow in Tony Benson’s swan song and eight at home against Doncaster, with Roden in charge for the first time.

The caretaker boss cracked the whip at training last night.

He was in the team that won 24-14 at Workington on the first day of the Co-operative Championship One season and he wants his men to complete their first double in their last home game of a shocking 2012 campaign.

“We spent more than an hour last night on sorting out the defence,” said Roden.

“We are trying to get everyone on the same wavelength by working on line unison and line speed.

“It’s all down to whether we take pride in doing the graft and keeping our line intact.”

Winger Chris Murphy remains doubtful for this weekend.

Lucas Onyango is expected to be fully fit by game day, as is his centre David Cookson, who will be assessed later in the week.
