Oldham surge beyond Thunder

Gateshead 12, Oldham 56
OLDHAM made it two wins from three outings under caretaker boss Martin Roden with a thoroughly professional all-round performance against bottom-of-the-table Gateshead Thunder.
With Roughyeds in this mean and menacing mood there was never the slightest danger of them slipping up — as an embarrassed Workington Town had four days before.
Roden's men were superior in every department and over every inch of the pitch, scoring 10 tries to the home side's two and, in the second half, looking capable of adding to their tally nearly every time they had the ball.
Roden made numerous positional switches and four changes of personnel - Dave Cookson, Jamie Acton, Danny Langtree and Luke Stenchion making way for Mark McCully, Danny Whitmore after a long injury absence, Sam Cunningham for only his second senior game and Joy, on his debut.
Roughyeds built up a commanding 22-6 interval lead. A rare defensive blip allowed Thunder's pacy little centre Joe Brown to score from dummy half 20 metres out, but as the half drew to a close Oldham pulled away and knocked the heart out of the home side.
They scored six tries in the second half for a victory that couldn’t have been much more one-sided.
