Come on board — Oldham chief

OLDHAM RL Club chief Chris Hamilton will talk to anyone keen to join the club’s board, he says.

He took time out from finalising the appointment of a new head coach to tell staff, sponsors,

players and supporters: “I’m running this club on my own only because no one else wants to do it.

“It’s hard, and there’s a lot of responsibility on my shoulders.

“If any of you know of anyone who would want to work with me — or even instead of me — you let me know.

“If there is anyone out there who would want to have a go in helping to run this club I would be only too delighted to hear from them.”

Hamilton says there is a big job ahead, involving significant development work at Whitebank and the need to build a 2013 squad strong enough to win promotion.

Hamilton’s plea came at the club’s end-of-season awards dinner, at which departing full-back Miles Greenwood won all three major trophies, from supporters, his fellow players and caretaker coach Martin Roden.

In his season with his home-town club, the former Leigh and Halifax No 1 scored 20 tries — eight more than his nearest challenger, Alex Thompson.

“It was a big decision (to leave for Batley) because I have really enjoyed my time at Oldham,” Greenwood said.

“I’m very pleased to have had a year here — it was a season I will never forget.”

Clubman of the year was statistician Ian Cockroft and unsung hero was dedicated supporter Tracy Bradley. A special award was made to retiring kit man Paul Hulbert.
