SCOTT NAYLOR is looking forward to the challenge at Oldham RL
NEW Oldham RL Club coach Scott Naylor has vowed to leave “no stone unturned” to make the club successful — and warned that his new players must improve on last season.
The former Salford, Bradford and England centre (40) penned a two-year deal at Whitebank after his former Salford boss, Shaun McRae, recommended him to Roughyeds chairman Chris Hamilton.
Naylor, twice a Grand Final winner and capped four times by his country, was most recently coaching Leigh rugby union side.
He said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity by Chris to take the job.
“We had two lengthy meetings before everything was confirmed and he left me in no uncertain terms as to the situation with every aspect of the club.
Naylor is now sifting through footage from the previous Co-operative Championship One campaign as well as looking for new players.
He added: “By the end of next week, I fully intend to have watched every minute of every Oldham fixture, home and away, from the previous campaign.
“There is no way I am going to turn up to the first day of pre-season training without knowing what the players are about — their strengths, their weaknesses, everything they can bring to the table.”
Fresh faces are a priority for the new coach. Only Neil Roden is under contract for the new season.
But as Naylor says, he has 24 years worth of top-line contacts to call on.
“Earlier in the week I received telephone calls from people telling me certain players are available. It was before I had officially been given the job. I intend to draw on every contact I have to make this a better squad.”
