Oldham coach goes back to the future

Date published: 25 September 2012

SCOTT Naylor, Oldham RL Club’s new boss, is delving into his past to build Roughyeds’ future.

The former Bradford Bulls and Salford City Reds centre, now in day five of his first job as a head coach, has built a network of contacts on both sides of the Pennines in 24 years of rugby.

He will be relying on the old pals’ act to give him a flying start as he builds a 2013 Oldham squad.

Only club skipper Neil Roden is contracted for next year.

Mark McCully’s future is in doubt because of injury.

Chairman Chris Hamilton added: “Scott’s phone has never stopped ringing in the last few days.

“He has been fielding calls from players, agents and other contacts as well as making loads of calls himself.”

Naylor is also working towards the appointment of his number two and planning pre-season training, probably in early November.

The chairman will head the club’s representation at the Championships’ end-of-season gala presentation dinner in Leeds tonight.
