Death of Oldham RL stalwart

LIFELONG Oldham Rugby fan Keith Potter, vice-chairman of the club in a memorable 1986-87 season, has died in hospital.

Back then the Watersheddings ground, run by a members’ committee, would regularly attract up to 6,000.

Keith was successful in several elections and served on the committee for several years, becoming vice-chairman in a season remembered for a shock 10-8 first-round Challenge Cup win against champions Wigan. Keith was originally elected in the 1982-83 season.

Keith’s late wife Ann died several years ago and he is survived by a son, two daughters and two grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at Oldham Parish Church on December 28 (11.30am), followed by interment at Greenacres Cemetery.
