Awards boost for Roughyeds

OLDHAM RL Club has cleaned up in this week's Championship One individual and team awards.
Coaches of the nine third-tier clubs named Roughyeds' captain and stand-off Lewis Palfrey as player of the week after a dominating display in his side's impressive 30-12 win at Hemel Stags.
Scott Naylor's men also won the team of the week award, while five members of the Roughyeds' squad were included in the all-star Championship One team line-up based on individual performances in last weekend's games. Full-back Richard Lepori, dual-reg centre Ford, hat-trick winger Bloomfield, Palfrey and back-row man Danny Langtree were all named.
Palfrey’s performance earned the former Salford, Whitehaven and Batley half-back the maximum five points towards Championship One’s player of the year award at the end of the season.
Said Naylor: "It really is great for Oldham to be recognised like this, but it's no more than the players deserve after the way they responded to the disappointing home defeat by Oxford.”
