Rally round plea by fans’ group
Date published: 02 July 2013
THE Oldham RL Supporters' Association (ORSA) is appealing for more backing from rank-and-file Roughyeds' fans.
Led by a newly-elected four-strong team, comprising of chairman Nigel Marland, vice-chairman John McAndrew, secretary Grant Somerville and treasurer Sheila Somerville, the association is an independent group yet one which has pledged to help the parent club, Oldham RLFC (1997) Ltd, whenever and however it can.
In a message to fans on the Roughyeds' website, Marland writes: "We need more fans to be involved in order for us to continue the level of support we have provided over the past 18 months.
"Our members form an essential, yet independent, part of the club, but we also rely on non-members for their support of fund-raising activities and for any other assistance they may wish to offer us."
In the past year and a half, ORSA has sponsored two players; sponsored player-of-the-year awards; donated to the repair and purchase of training equipment; organised and administered a Squad Strengthener fund; organised, in conjunction with Limehurst Lions, a children's Christmas party; and become a 2013 season Roughyeds' shirt sponsor.
Fans wishing to join, to help in any other way or to seek more information should contact secretary Grant Somerville on 01706 844810 or write to ORSA, c/o 48, Great Meadow, High Crompton, Shaw OL2 7PX.
