Naylor praises team ethic

WHAT a difference a week can make.

Seven days after admitting his embarrassment over his side’s flimsy defence at Hemel, Scott Naylor watched Oldham man the barricades with pride to keep their try line intact.

South Wales was restricted to a penalty goal by Paul Emanuelli on the stroke of half-time: other than that the side rarely looked like scoring.

Oldham meanwhile kept fans in good voice by slamming 10 tries past a worn-out, weary defence, including three by mighty Mo Agoro and two from big Ben Wood on his return to the side.

Naylor was chuffed with that, but no more than he was with his side’s willingness to fight.

“We were hard-working and aggressive in defence and any side that claims to have anything about it needs to be big on defending,” said the Oldham boss.

“That’s what this sport is all about. What you do off the ball is just as important, if not more so, than what you do in possession.”

“We played good solid rugby in the first half and then opened up a bit in the second when we a lot more

expressive. We looked like a team - and in rugby league that’s a massive thing.”
