Oldham hooker waits on RFL disciplinary call
Date published: 25 June 2014
DANNY Whitmore is hoping to escape an RFL disciplinary charge after getting a yellow card for punching at Gateshead.
Referee Andy Sweet penalised the Oldham hooker and sent him to the sin-bin 16 minutes into the game with Thunder leading 10-6.
While he was off, Gateshead scored a third try by Jason Payne to go 14-6 in front before Roughyeds hit back to win 32-14.
The RFL’s match review panel looks at all incidents involving red and yellow cards, and cases reported by referees.
Whitmore was sent to the cooler for allegedly striking out at two opponents but declined to elaborate.
Club and player should know before the end of the week whether Whitmore’s second yellow in four games will face no further action or result in a charge. Either way, he will be available for Sunday’s game at Oxford where Oldham will be out to clinch their fourth double of the season.
Coach Scott Naylor expects to be picking from the 17 who performed splendidly at Gateshead, plus Paddy Mooney, Brett Robinson, Liam Thompson, Mark Hobson, Alex Davidson and George Tyson.
