Danny Whitmore: punch allegation
DANNY Whitmore has been charged by the RFL with punching an opponent during Oldham’s win at Gateshead Thunder last Sunday.
The Roughyeds hooker was shown the yellow card and sin-binned for the second time in four games – the first time being against London Skolars on June 1.
At Whitebank the Oldham player was accompanied to the bin by opponent Courtney Davies. Play resumed with a penalty to Roughyeds, and the RFL’s match review panel took no further action.
At Gateshead, Whitmore was the only player penalised. The penalty went to the home side and the match review panel pressed ahead with the charge.
The recommended sanction for such a “grade B” offence is a one to two-match ban. An early guilty plea would reduce this to one match, but must be made by 11am on Tuesday. A decision on whether to do this is still to be made.
Either way Whitmore will be free to play at Oxford on Sunday afternoon, when high-flying Roughyeds will look for their seventh win in eight games.
