Michael Lawrence: the Huddersfield Giants loose-forward played the full 80 minutes against Leigh Centurions.
TRY-SCORER Michael Lawrence, Kyle Wood and Scott Grix won’t be playing for Oldham RL regularly this season — if at all.
Despite the Huddersfield trio making their presence felt against Leigh Centurions, coach Scott Naylor explained: “I had a conversation with Paul Anderson (Huddersfield’s coach) and he asked if I could fit them in. Obviously I said yes. It would be nice if they played for us every week, but that’s not going to happen.
“This was, maybe, a one-off. Paul now knows they can get through games. It was good to have them round for a couple of days to see what they were about and feed off them. In that respect it was a win for everybody.”
Two other dual-registration players from Huddersfield were in the starting 13 on Sunday: the familiar face of prop Nathan Mason and second row Oliver Roberts.
Naylor added: “The players from Huddersfield could be different every week. Paul might ask if they can play next weekend. Whether I think that is of benefit to the team, again that is a conversation I’ll have to have with Paul.”
One player missing from Oldham’s squad against Leigh was Danny Langtree, who had a slight hamstring strain.
Roughyeds wrap up their pre-season programme with a trip to Barrow on Sunday.
NATHAN Mason and team mate George Tyson have entered early guilty pleas following their dismissals against Swinton. Mason will receive an automatic one-match ban and will miss Sunday’s trip to Barrow. Tyson will face no further action. Neither will be able to submit another early guilty plea for 12 months.
