CHAIRMAN Chris Hamilton will lead Oldham Rugby League Club’s contingent in the sport’s Founders’ Walk which hits this area tomorrow.
Accompanied by John McAndrew, chairman of ORSA (Oldham Roughyeds’ Supporters’ Association) and Mike Travis, lifelong fan and currently the club’s official match-day timekeeper, Hamilton will walk from Rochdale Asda to Waterhead Park, where he will join Oldham fans and others taking part in the local leg from Waterhead to Hathershaw College.
The walk is to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth of Rugby League at the historic meeting at the George Hotel, Huddersfield in 1895 when 22 clubs, of which Oldham was one, broke away from the Rugby Football Union to form the Northern Union, later the Rugby Football League.
Time of departure from Rochdale Asda is 9.30am with events kicking off at Waterhead Park at 12.30pm.
