Christopher Hamilton: now the work begins
OLDHAM RL chairman Chris Hamilton has confirmed the club will talk to Oldham Athletic counterpart Simon Corney about Roughyeds playing home matches at SportsDirect.com Park next season.
Newly-promoted Oldham have played at Whitebank Stadium, Limeside since 2010, but the ground doesn’t meet RFL minimum standards for the championship division.
Roughyeds has never wavered from the belief that the club’s long-term future lies at a developed Whitebank, but short term the need is to relocate for st least the first season in the higher division.
“I’ve always had a good working relationship with Simon Corney,” said Hamilton. “We are going to meet to discuss the possibilities for next season.”
This season Hamilton has seen his club win two trophies and promotion with 14 wins in a row and a grand final win against rivals Keighley to win promotion. Since then coach Scott Naylor and club captain Lewis Palfrey have been named Kingstone Press League One coach and player of the year respectively.
Hamilton has since had meetings with Oldham Council about Whitebank’s future development, and with an advisory technical team previously involved in plans to upgrade Whitebank.
