SCOTT Naylor praised his players’ tenacity, teamwork and total commitment after a resounding seven-try defeat of Dewsbury Rams.

It was Oldham’s first win in the Championship, at the third attempt, and the Roughyeds’ boss said the level of performance reached by his team was one that would raise the bar for the rest of a long season.

“We’ve set the standard and we mustn’t depart from it - not unless we take it higher, which we will have to do at Featherstone next week,” said Naylor. “We didn’t win because we played fantastic football or because we had a great kicking game or because of any other quality you care to name.

“We won because 17 Oldham players worked and worked and worked from start to finish.

“Individually and as a team they really wanted this. We made some changes and I think they worked well for the team. From one to 17 they all get a pat on the back from me.”

Dewsbury’s Aussie boss Glenn Morrison said: “We weren’t allowed to play so you’ve got to credit Oldham for that. After half an hour the penalty count was 8-2 Oldham. Game over.”
