TRY . . . Jack Holmes put Oldham in front
Whitehaven 14, Oldham RL 6
DESPITE taking the lead through a converted try, Oldham RL slipped to defeat at Whitehaven in the Kingstone Championship.
Jack Holmes went in for the Roughyeds, who were looking to follow up two impressive league victories and their brilliant triumph at Hull KR in the Challenge Cup. Skipper Lewis Palfrey added the goal.
The home side hit back with two converted scores to go into the break 12-6 ahead at the Recreation Ground.
Oldham, who started the game two points ahead of their hosts in ninth place, were kept at bay after half-time, while Haven kicked a penalty to stretch their advantage.
