Howard out on his own

OLDHAM and Royton Harriers ace Adam Howard led from pillar to post to win the under-13s boys 1,500m in the last match in the UK Athletics Young Athletes League.
He raced away from the gun and, with only one other athlete for company, completed the first lap in 73 seconds.
Keeping up the pressure, Howard reached the half mile mark in two minutes 32 seconds, before surging clear on the third lap.
He then sprinted home to win in 4:53.2, knocking almost six seconds off his personal best.
Howard enjoyed a good meet, reaching 3.91m in the long jump and running 28.9s in the 200m.
Kyle Mayall, competing in his first meet for the club, won the shot put with an excellent 9.88m. She also performed well in the 100m, recording 13.1s and ran 26.5s for the 200m.
In the under-13 girls’ events, Lucy Kershaw ran 11.8s in the 75m, reached 3.00m in the long jump and threw the shot put to 5.87m.
Naomi Skinner posted 28.1 seconds in the 150m registered 2.97m in the long jump before finishing the 75m in 13.7s.
Francesca Connolly ran a great 800m in 2:57.4 and then entered the 75m hurdles for the first time and came home third in 15.9s.
Bobbie-Leigh Tindall returned from injury and won the under-15 girls 100m in 14.1s.
Emma Peter was first in the girls 1500m race in 5:17.4 and Jane Augsberger took second in her first 3,000m in 11:50.9.
Josh Donald jumped to 4.22m in the long jump and then ran 5:24.9 in the 1,500m.
Jay Gilmore crossed the line in 36.6 seconds in the 200m, ran the 100m in 18.2s and threw 5.37m in the shot.
Connor Colleavey enjoyed a good day, coming home in 16.5 seconds in the 75m hurdles, recording 3.34m in the long jump and 5:55.6 in the 1,500m.
