TALENTED cricketer Ross Zelem is this week spearheading the north region’s challenge at the Taunton Festival.
The Blue Coat pupil is captain of the under-13s representative team in their quest for English Schools’ Cricket Association honours in Somerset.
An opening batsman, Ross’s side are pitting their wits against the South-West, Midlands and London/South-East.
The 13-year-old, who plays for Woodhouses second team, was selected for the squad after impressing in two trials and was later named skipper.
He led the Lancashire Schools’ Cricket Association to third place in Taunton at the end of July — a forerunner to the area competition.
Ross, who also plays rugby league for Oldham St Anne’s as well representing the school at football and athletics, has featured in every game for Lancashire Schools this season, helping his team to 10 wins out of 12.
