Club’s sights on gala final

OLDHAM Amateur Swimming Club has capped a successful season by claiming third place in the Central Lancashire Junior Jubilee League of 20 teams.
They accumulated 404 points during the campaign, just behind Radcliffe (414) and Tyldesley (407).
The top four teams will contest the ‘A’ team gala final in October.
In the final Jubilee League fixture against Radcliffe, Rochdale and Darwen, They were runners-up to Radcliffe, after finishing first in 24 of the 42 races.
Jessica Fullalove made a clean sweep in the 12-years age group, winning the freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke.
Olivia Askew boasted a hat-trick of victories in the 10-years butterfly, backstroke and freestyle. In the same age group there were wins for Kyle Clegg (butterfly) and Joe Griffin (breaststroke).
Caitlin Wareing was victorious in the 11-years freestyle and backstroke, with team-mate Bethany Peak winning the breaststroke.
The club made a clean sweep in the 13-years age group, as Hannah Clegg won the freestyle and butterfly, Rachel Bolton was top in the backstroke and Chloe Basnett first in the breaststroke.
For the boys in this age group, Ian Martin finished first in the freestyle and breaststroke.
The girls’ 11-years team of Wareing, Peak, Askew and Kiandra Basnett were victorious in both the freestyle and medley relays.
Hannah Clegg, Megan Smith, Bolton and Fullalove came out on top in the 13-years freestyle relay with Basnett replacing Fullalove in the triumphant medley team.
The boys team of Stelios Michalakis, Martin, Sam Hill and Alex Goodhall won the medley relay in the same age group.
In the cannon freestyle relay, comprising one swimmer from each age group, Peak, Askew, Fullalove and Bolton were also successful.
Result: Radcliffe 139, Oldham 129, Rochdale 80, Darwen 56.
Oldham completed their Manchester and District first division campaign with a win against Worsley, Altrincham and Stalybridge at Sale.
They won nine of the relays and were runners-up in a further nine to finish the campaign in third place, a great achievement following their promotion from division two last season.
Result: Oldham 76, Worsley 63, Altrincham 62, Stalybridge 33.
