A GROUP of aspiring golfers have graduated from a training course at Saddleworth.
Young Masters Golf is an initiative aimed at attracting children into the sport.
The group of 25, who are aged between five and 14 years, has just completed an eight-week cadet course for beginners in which they learn about the rules of the game, etiquette and technique.
Now they will move on to take the bronze course and if they go the full distance they can take silver, gold and masters one, two, three and four.
Young Masters Golf is a franchise which Saddleworth professional Robert Johnson has subscribed into.
He said: “It is a comprehensive course and the youngsters have had a lot of fun as well as learning about golf. The further they go down the line - and when it comes to being allowed on to the course - they will know what they are doing as well as being aware of safety.”
Four of those on the cadet course were members at Saddleworth with the remainder brought on board after a recruitment campaign in local schools by Johnson.
While the young golfers tee off their bronze Young Masters Golf course in the first week in October, a new cadet course for beginners will also start at the same time.
Any youngster wanting to enrol can contact Johnson on 01457 873653.
