North Bury Junior League

YOUNG hot-shot Martin Kenny had a debut to remember for Chaddy Hoppers under-13s Red in the North Bury Junior League Cup.

He became an instant hero, bagging five goals in a 10-2 defeat of Bury Amateurs.

Blane Biggs was not far behind, scoring four times, while Josh Hughes helped himself to the other as Hoppers reached the next round in style.

But there was disappointment for under-12s Red, who were beaten 8-1 by Middleton Boys in the cup competition.

Under-11s ‘B’ are out after losing 4-2 at Woodbank ‘A’ — Georgie Belcher and Harry Gratton Smith scored the consolation goals — but the under-15s are through to the next round thanks to a 6-2 success over Marauder Hawks.

Joe Freeman (two), Kristian Bordiuk, Ben Winterbottom, Nathan Jarvis and Chris Smethurst were the marksmen.

Meanwhile, under-12s Blue came from behind twice to overcome Radcliffe Borough Colts 4-2.

Dan Ratcliffe notched a hat-trick and Josh Lindsay got the other for Hoppers, who recorded their first win in the premier division.

Matches between the two sides have always been closely contested affairs and the same seemed likely when the home side led 2-0 at half-time with the notorious slope to defend after the break.

However, Springhead never looked back once Jack Beasley converted a penalty early in the second half.

Man-of-the-match Harrison Hough completed a hat-trick and Callum Entwistle netted a rebound late on after Heyside ’keeper James Lord had saved a second penalty kick.
