Rochdale and Oldham Youth League

CHADDY End FC had plenty to smile about in the Rochdale and Oldham Youth League.

The under-12s, with goals from Sam Haran (four), Callum Buckley (two), Thomas Maloney and Lewis Henderson, brushed aside Broadway Celtic 8-1.

Josh Brown also scored four times for the under-14s in a 6-3 defeat of Springhead. Matthew Crothers and Callum Mazynczenko made up the tally.

And the under-15s enjoyed a 16-3 romp over Shawclough. Aidan Ball, Curtis Ingham and Tom Proctor scored four apiece, with Haydn McNally (two), Shaakir Chowdhury and Anthony Gibson getting the other goals.

SPRINGHEAD under-12s turned on the style to sweep aside Shawclough 8-3.

Marcus Schofield, who was switched from right-back to right-wing, set the ball rolling, before Tom Travis, with two, and Jack Lent got in on the act.

Conner Bourne added a brace after the break, Travis completed his hat-trick and Jordan Boland got number eight.

The under-13s, with Kaimmen Morris, Adam Howard and Connor Gooseman getting the goals, continued their fine form with a 3-0 win over Chaddy Rangers.

HEYSIDE under-15s produced their best performance for a year to give double winning Littleborough a real scare.

Heyside deservedly led 1-0 at the break through a fine Matthew Robinson strike, but the league leaders levelled and then claimed all three points when ’keeper James Lord had a long-range shot covered only to see it take a wicked deflection and nestle in the opposite corner.

Thomas Ireland led the way for the under-14s, scoring four times in a 5-2 defeat of Rochdale St Clements. Kareem James got the other goal.

CHADDERTON FC Juniors under-12s come out on top in a nine-goal thriller against Rochdale St Clements.

They displayed plenty of resolve to run out 5-4 winners, with Matthew Goulding (two), Jack Nadin (two) and Bradley Humphreys bagging the goals.

TWO goals from Josh Flitcroft were in vain as Failsworth Dynamos under-15s succumbed 5-2 against Rochdale St Clements, but the under-16s put four past Chadderton Rangers with no reply.

Quickfire Cole is too hot to handle

A RAPID hat-trick from Jake Cole set Oldham Schools under-14s on their way to a tremendous 8-1 victory against Wigan.

The Radclyffe hot-shot struck three times in the opening 15 minutes in the Greater Manchester Schools’ League fixture.

Wigan reduced the deficit, but Matthew Singleton (Crompton House) scored a fourth goal as Oldham went into the interval with a commanding lead.

They put the result beyond doubt after the restart, with Daniel Cooper (Crompton House) and Connor Hughes (Radclyffe) adding their names to the scoresheet.

Wigan were unable to get the measure of the visitors and Oldham completed an emphatic victory with a double from Devaughan Bridge (Blue Coat) late on in the game.

They will be looking to carry on their good work 14s at Bradford in the preliminary round of the North West Woodward Trophy on Saturday (kick-off 10.30am).

Despite fine displays from Tom Lee and Matt McGroarty, they went down 2-0 in a scrappy affair.

The teams, from Greenfield, Delph, Diggle, St Agnes, St Chadds and St Mary’s ‘A’ and ‘B’, participated in three organised warm up sessions of 10 minutes under the watchful eye of level one coaches from the club.

The teams were then split into groups of three and four, with the top two from each playing in a final, and it was St Mary ‘A’ who came out on top 2-0 against Greenfield.

At the same time, the teams took part in a penalty shoot-out competition, with the aim of scoring as many spot-kicks as possible in a seven-minute period against two of the senior teams’ goalkeepers.

Greenfield led the way, followed by St Mary’s ‘A’ and Diggle.
