Shaw Juniors revel in a trophy treble

SHAW scooped three of the six team awards at the 2008 Saddleworth and District Cricket League junior section presentation evening held at Uppermill CC.
The club’s under-15s doubled up by sharing the league title with Glodwick and winning the Leicester Shield for the second consecutive season.
They were also crowned under-13s champions to complete a superb summer for the Holebottom Clough juniors.
On the individual front, Michael Bird had a night to remember.
The Uppermill teenager won both the batting and bowling averages in the under-15s division.
Bird, who also represented the under-18s Colts team during the season, received his awards from Lancashire wicketkeeper Luke Sutton, who was the guest of honour.
Award winners were —
Under-17s — league winners: Greenfield. The Romida Shield: Austerlands.
Under-15s — league winners: Shaw and Glodwick tied. Leicester Shield: Shaw.
Under-13s — league winners: Shaw. Cup: Saddleworth ‘A’.
Under-17s — batting: C Gill (Greenfield, 220 runs at an average of 110). Bowling: J Greenwood (Austerlands, 18 wickets at an average of 8.5).
Under-15s — batting: M Bird (Uppermill, 260 runs at 43.3). Bowling: M Bird (Uppermill, 21 wickets at 6.1).
Under-13s — batting: R Hunsley (Saddleworth ‘A’, 271 runs at 135.5). Bowling: F Shaghir (Saddleworth ‘B’, 17 wickets at 5.7).
