THORP Primary hot-footed their way to Oldham Schools Cross-Country League glory.

The youngsters were crowned overall champions after dominating the third and final round at Alexandra Park.

Thorp, from Royton, won each of the four team categories and also boasted two individual winners on the day in Lois Greenwood in the girls’ Years Three and Four race and Ryan Slater in the boys’ Years Three and Four.

Megan Whitworth, of St Joseph’s, led the way in the Years Five and Six race for girls, while Chris Brown, of St Paul’s, crossed the line in first place in the boys race.

More than 150 children from 19 primary schools took part in the league, which was organised by Oldham Sports Development.

Competition manager Steve Tyrell said: “I would like to thank the PE staff at Hathershaw School for giving up their Saturday mornings to provide support and help for a much-valued sporting experience for youngsters.

“Without their efforts these events would not take place.”
