Royton off to flying start

ROYTON hit the ground running in the new Oldham Cricket Development Group under-11s Indoor League season.

Inspired by Aaron Tesz, they defeated Shaw by 49 runs in their Group ‘A’ clash at Oldham Sports Centre.

Tesz, who recorded figures of two overs for nine runs, was the pick of the bowlers as Shaw compiled a competitive 271 for one.

That score would have been good enough to win most matches in this competition — but not on this occasion.

Tesz hit 32 and put on 53 in the first three overs with Jacob Adams to set Royton on their way to a massive 320 for three.

Moorside also showed great promise with the bat as they overcame Austerlands by 29 runs.

The Turf Pit Lane outfit amassed 295 for two in reply to Austerlands’ 266 for three.

First up at the Millennium Centre was the match between Heyside and Delph.

Taking first knock, Heyside were restricted to 244 for five after Daniel Jones had taken two wickets for one run in a single over.

Solid batting throughout saw Delph close on 266 for the loss of two wickets, both of which fell to Cory Heaton.

Bradley Cruse top-scored with 12, while Nathan Jones made 11.

Uppermill came out on top in a thriller against Woodhouses.

Defending 253 for three — Jake Manton made 18 — ’Mill were staring defeat in the face after Woodhouses closed within three runs of their target with two overs to go.

But Lewis Barlow bowled a wicket maiden, leaving the lads from Medlock Road requiring eight from the last over.

It was then left to Manton who, following up his efforts with the bat, took two wickets to keep Woodhouses at bay.

Results are —

Group ‘A’: v Shaw 271-1, Royton 320–3; Austerlands 266-3, Moorside 295-2.

Group ‘B’: Heyside 244-5, Delph 266-2; Uppermill 253-3, Woodhouse 242-4.
