Oldham see lead slip away

OLDHAM under-15s halted a run of four consecutive Greater Manchester Schools’ League defeats when they fought out a 3-3 draw against Trafford at Ashton-on-Mersey School — but they were kicking themselves at the final whistle.

The teenagers, who have struggled in the league so far this season, appeared on course for victory after building up a three-goal lead.

But Trafford, displaying a never-say-die attitude, stormed back to earn a share of the spoils.

Oldham made a dream start when Jay Mehmet (Radclyffe) opened the scoring after just five minutes.

Matthew Ralph (Saddleworth) doubled his side’s tally soon after, but disaster struck just before the interval when Oldham were reduced to 10 men.

Despite that setback, Oldham increased their lead at the start of the second half with a Josh Horritt (Crompton House) strike.

But Trafford capitalised on the extra man by scoring twice before breaking Oldham’s hearts with an equaliser eight minutes from time.

The under-15s are in action on Saturday with a home game against Salford. Kick off at the Lancaster Club is 10.30am.

MEDLOCK Rangers under-16s are through to the last four of the County Cup after goals from Shaun Chapman, Andy Kremner and Will Webster clinched a 3-2 win over De La Salle.

HOLLINWOOD under-15s will stage their first training session at Lime Lane on Saturday, January 24 (start 10am).
