Delight for Uppermill in close encounter
Date published: 04 February 2009
UPPERMILL squeezed home by five runs against Delph in an Oldham Cricket Development Group under-11s Indoor League thriller.
Delph took first knock in the group ‘B’ clash at the Millennium Centre and, thanks to a brilliant opening stand of 32 between Daniel Jones and Lewis Cornforth, they posted 251 for seven from their nine overs. Uppermill captain Jake Manton claimed three wickets.
Delph knew wickets would hold the key and, when Bradley Cruse made the breakthrough in the second over, they seemed set for victory.
But some solid batting from Alex Sheard (21) and Harry Lord (16) saw Uppermill win by a nose.
Saddleworth maintained their impressive start to the season with an emphatic 63-run defeat of Heyside.
The entire Well-i-Hole team contributed to their total of 286.
James Howard and William Wilson led the way with 18 apiece, while Bradley Flint took the only wicket to fall.
Heyside’s reply never really got going as they struggled to 223. Callum Hendrick made nine.
Tom Jowle was the chief destroyer, taking three of the 10 wickets.
Royton continue to pile up the runs in group ‘A’.
It was Moorside’s turn to feel the force of Royton’s batsmen, who accumulated a mammoth 312 for three.
Jack Snape smashed 22 from just seven balls, and he was supported by Aaron Tesz and William Sandiford-Mitchell, who both struck 17.
Moorside recorded a respectable 251 for five in reply, with Matthew Jones making 13.
Tesz followed up his effort with the bat by claiming two wickets for six runs.
