Oldham close in on cup final
DOUBLE-CHASING Oldham Schools under-14s are one step away from reaching the Talbot Cup final.
The talented youngsters defeated Tameside 3-2 and now meet Salford in the semi-finals on or before Saturday, March 7.
Oldham raced into a two-goal lead in their last-eight tie at The Lancaster Club, thanks to Noor Uddin’s successful penalty and Darcey O’Connor’s left-foot drive.
But Tameside had wiped out the lead provided by the Grange and Hathershaw pupils soon after the start of the second half.
However, Oldham regrouped and, courtesy of Uddin’s superb individual effort, they joined Salford, Bury and Manchester in the last four.
The youngsters have hit top form this season and remain unbeaten from their nine outings to date.
They are on course to lift the Greater Manchester Schools’ League title as they require only a point from their final game against Bury on Saturday, February 28.
Oldham under-15s are in County Cup action on Saturday with a quarter-final tie against Bolton at The Lancaster Club (kick-off 10.30am)
HEYSIDE Juniors under-14s, who play in the Tameside Sunday League, require new players.
