Oldham team on verge of crowning glory

GET set for a championship decider at the Lancaster Club on Saturday.

Oldham Schools under-14s will land the Greater Manchester Schools’ League title if they can take a point from the final game against nearest rivals Bury (kick-off 10.30am).

The talented youngsters have hit top form this season, winning five of their six league matches. The other game ended in a draw.

A point adrift in second place, opponents Bury can steal the championship from under the noses of Oldham if they beat their hosts at the weekend.

Oldham are also eyeing a double as they are through to the semi-finals of the Talbot Cup. They are away to Salford in the last four.

The under-15s, meanwhile, bowed out of the Greater Manchester Schools’ County Cup at the quarter-final stage after they lost 3-0 at home to Bolton.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, they conceded a second goal on the hour mark before their fate was sealed with 10 minutes to go.




Laycock, Leonard at the double for Celtic

GOALS from Chris Leonard (two), Joe Laycock (two), Connor Chester, Ryan Booth, Billy Slattery and Tom Bailey clinched an 8-0 win for Broadway Celtic under-11s over Failsworth Rangers ‘B’ in the Manchester Youth League.


A HAT-TRICK from Riley Hamill, plus a Joe Fagan double, helped Chaddy End FC under-11s to an 8-2 success over Higher Blackley Boys Rogues 2.

Aidan Young, Nathan Crowther and Tom Nuttall made up the tally.

Huddersfield and District Junior League

DANNY Kilburn and Jack Clarke were on target for Uppermill under-18s, but they were unable to prevent a 4-2 defeat against Howden Clough in the Huddersfield and District Junior League.

CHRIS Whitworth scored for 3D Dynamos under-15s in a 1-1 draw at Hepworth United and under-12s ‘M’, with Sam Wilson and Josh Barlow on the mark, drew 2-2 at Meltham Athletic.


East Manchester Mini-Soccer League

East Manchester Junior League

AVRO Juniors under-13s bounced back from their County Cup defeat with a 2-0 win at Chadderton FC in the East Manchester Junior League.

Jake Jackson and Kane Hughes hit the target.


Uppermill are back on track with five-star performance

UPPERMILL under-15s, with goals from Osman Bushara (two), Danny Mills (two) and James Jowle, returned to winning ways with a 5-2 defeat of Ridgehill Athletic 5-2.

But the under-12s were beaten 12-1 by Gamesley Villa. Kris Drake scored the consolation.


HEYSIDE Juniors under-14s were stunned by a last-gasp goal as they were held to a 4-4 draw by AFC Clayton.

Jordan Holt and Devaughn Bridge scored two apiece for Heyside.

FAILSWORTH Town under-13s won 3-1 at Clayton Villa and Richard Salt hit a hat-trick on debut as the under-12s defeated Manchester Maccabi 5-2.


LIAM Cullen (two) and Bradley Sykes scored for Oldham Boys under-14s, who picked up a point in a 3-3 draw against Failsworth Town.


CONNOR Hughes (two), Danny Gilmartin and Alex Gregory grabbed the goals for Boundary Park Juniors under-14s in a 4-4 draw against Brendon Bees.




Rochdale and Oldham Youth League

STRIKER Jordan Boland broke the deadlock for Springhead under-12s, who went on to post a 2-0 win over Chadderton FC in the Rochdale and Oldham Youth League.

Connor Bourne doubled their lead in the second half in a terrific encounter. Josh Haigh, the Springhead goalkeeper, played his part with several key saves.

The under-13s continued their march for honours as they came from behind to beat Rochdale St Clements 5-1.

Adam Howard equalised for Springhead, before further goals from Joe Hall, Jordan Broadbent, Jordan Mortimer and Howard again clinched an emphatic victory.

The under-14s, meanwhile, went down 2-1 to Chadderton Rangers, despite dominating the game. Ellis Hallwood scored the consolation.


DOUBLE strikes from Jack Johnson and Chris May were in vain as Crompton Villa under-12s lost 5-4 at basement boys Shawclough, who were collecting their first points of the season.

TOM Maloney (two), Charlie Burton (two), Callum Buckley (two), Ryan Mason and Lewis Newton were on the mark for Chaddy End FC under-12s in an 8-3 triumph over Kingsway.



GOALS from striker Joe Burlison and Ryan Atkin gave Heyside Juniors under-15s a 2-0 home win over Middleton Rangers.

But Heyside had ’keeper James Lord to thank for several fine saves as they struggled to take their chances at the other end.

North Bury Junior League
CHADDY Hopper under-13s Red staked their claim for top honours in the North Bury Junior League with a thrilling 5-3 win over title rivals Middleton Colts.

Two goals to the good courtesy of Joshua Brierley, Colts stormed back to lead 3-2 at the break.

But Hoppers rallied in the second half and a Blaine Biggs brace and a Joe Gill effort clinched a vital victory.

Under-12s Blue are facing a fight to avoid the drop after they suffered back-to-back defeats.

They lost 2-0 to Bridge Colts and 8-1 to CMB. They went ahead aginst CMB through Dan Ratcliff’s early goal.

The Red team were unable to build on their 3-2 win over Rossendale United Boys in the last eight of the Subsidiary Cup.

Returning to league action, they were in front twice against Whitworth before eventually succumbing 6-3. Josh O’Donnell (two) and Bradley Dalloway scored for Hoppers.

Tameside and District Junior League

OLDHAM Boys under-13s suffered extra-time agony in the Tameside and District Junior League Cup.


They went down 2-1 to Hyde United in the quarter-final tie. Sean Dodsworth netted for Oldham.


3D DYNAMOS under-11s, with Ben Ford, Tom Ireson and Jack Churchill doing the damage, enjoyed a 3-2 success over Brendon Bees.


GOALS from Alex Milovanovic and Callum Wetton were in vain as 3D Dynamos under-12s were beaten 4-2 by Heyside Juniors in round one of the Challenge Cup.

But under-11s ‘M’ had Remi Morris (two), Joe Connolly, Charlie Maslen and Aaron Rogers on the mark in a 5-0 defeat of Stalybridge Celtic in the Challenge Cup.


Wasteful girls see victories slip away

OLDHAM Athletic Girls featured in two high-scoring draws in the Oldham Girls League — but they should have won both games.

The under-13s shared eight goals with Uppermill Rockettes, despite leading 3-0 and 4-1.
Abbie Porter, Chloe Austen, Rachel Merritt and Keeley Scott got Athletic’s goals, while Megan Ashton (two) and Jayme Butler-Jones (two) replied for Rockettes, who refused to throw in the towel.

Athletic under-15s also squandered a healthy advantage as they drew 5-5 with Rochdale.
They were 4-2 and 5-3 in front, only for their opponents to hit back and claim a point.

Nicole Scott (two), Vicky Connor (two) and Loren Scholey scored for Athletic.

Abby Bennett netted twice and Emily Vale got the other as Athletic under-12s overcame Curzon Ashton 3-2.

Meanwhile, the under-11s could only field six players against Harpurhey United, who went on to win 5-2. Lauryn Fallon and Abbie O’Brien scored for Athletic.

The under-16s were beaten 7-0 by Heyside Angels Clarets, for whom Lucy Shaylor (three), Blossom Halkyard (two), Lily Prince and Emma Harte got the goals.


TANISHA Williams scored the only goal of the game as Heyside Angels under-11s Inter edged out their Clarets team-mates 1-0.

Leoni Harland notched a hat-trick for under-13s Inter, who beat Rochdale 3-0, but Abbi Andrews went one better as Angels under-14s brushed aside Uppermill Rockettes 10-1.

She scored four times, Katie Jones recorded a treble and Beth Giblin, Jessica Cooke and Elysia Broome got one each.

Rachel McHugh also helped herself to a hat-trick as Angels under-16s defeated Uppermill Rockettes 5-2 in a top-of-the-table encounter.

Jade Morris and Gemma Jacobs were also on the scoresheet for Heyside, while Jenny Irwin weighed in with both Rockettes goals.

Irwin’s second effort was rather fortuitous as the ’keeper’s clearance rebounded off the teenager and ended up in the back of the net.


R.O.C.S FC under-14s missed a glut of chances in a 4-1 reverse at the hands of Moston Juniors. Megan Jackson got the consolation.
