A CONVINCING 22-0 win over Leigh Miners Rangers secured the North-West Counties League second division title for Saddleworth Rangers under-16s.

In the final game of their season, Saddleworth dominated from the off and, as the visitors began to lose discipline, Lees crossed at the corner.

A second try from Francis followed five minutes later, with Leigh’s response being to have one man sent off and another put into the sin bin.

Tattersall went over just before half-time, with Saddleworth entering the break 12-0 in front.

Two more tries followed in the second half, from Pursey and Francis, with Tattersall kicking the last points to take the match and the championship.

SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-14s exited the BARLA National Cup at the quarter-finals stage in agonising fashion, losing 34-30.

Opponents Shaw Cross opened up by scoring three tries without reply, before Chris Bolton went over for the first of his hat-trick, Ben White converting from the touchline.

Shaw Cross went over again to lead 20-6 but Danny Richardson, on debut, responded before another score for the Dewsbury side gave them a 24-10 half-time lead.

Rangers came out fighting and tries from Bolton and White sandwiched a pair of Shaw Cross tries. Bolton got his third and Ryan Maneely also claimed one, but even with White making it three conversions on the day, it was just too late to influence the result.

ALREADY assured of the North-West Counties division three championship, Saddleworth Rangers under-13s ran in nine tries as they beat Leyland Warriors 50-4.

Cameron Robertson opened the scoring, with Joseph Harrison-Brown weighing in with a hat-trick of tries for the second week running, while Dominic Elkin (two), Harry Wallace, Cameron Whitley and man-of-the-match Adam Wardle all scored tries — with Wardle’s, a full-length effort, the pick of the bunch.

Dominic D’Adamo kicked seven conversions as Rangers recorded their 11th successive league win.

SQUAD members were given a run-out for Saddleworth Rangers under-15s and they responded by overpowering Cadishead 54-2 at home.
Try scorers were Jordan Arundale (two), Christian Johnson, Andrew Salt, Chris Yarwood, Joe Bonniface, John Deakin, Christian D’Adamo and Dan Mulqueen, with goals coming from Richard Joy — a debutant in the kicking stakes — who, alongside regular kicker Nathan Shaw-Langhorn (four), enjoyed a 100-per-cent record with the boot.

SHAW Rhinos under-15s produced a great team effort to defeat Hindley 39-4.

After going a try down, the Rhinos roared back with scores from George Dyson, John Botham, Sam Bentley, James Allott, Ben Slater, David Kelly and Richard Adams. Allott kicked a drop goal and a conversion, with Botham notching four goals.

Saddleworth claim title hat-trick

SADDLEWORTH School Year Nines made it three North-West Counties Schools titles in a row, defeating William Beaumont of Warrington 44-14 under lights at Broughton Park.

Ryan Maneely and Chris Bolton both claimed hat-tricks as Saddleworth produced some free-flowing rugby league in front of a bumper crowd.

In a near-faultless first-half effort, Saddleworth claimed tries through a brace each for Bolton and man-of-the-match Maneely, skipper Ben White adding a fifth.

Lewis Charnock pulled one back for William Beaumont, slotting home his own conversion, but it was Saddleworth who turned round 28-6 ahead.

While the opposition came out strongly on the resumption, it was Saddleworth who were next in as White capped an excellent performance with his second try.

Maneely then completed his treble, thoroughly deserved for his non-stop work ethic. Charnock went on to pick up a hat-trick of his own, but Bolton — who had earlier raced in for a 90-yard interception try — finished off the scoring with his third in the corner. White finished with six goals.

Saddleworth now enter the national stage of the Carnegie Champion Schools competition as the top seed from the North-West. They will be targeting a place in the final, having narrowly missed out in the past two seasons.

NYLE Reyburn scored a hat-trick as Higginshaw’s under-14s beat Ince Rose Bridge 20-0.

In a big team effort, the defence was outstanding from start to finish and the other try scorer was Luke Heap. Jack Hughes kicked two conversions.

WATERHEAD under-15s produced a spirited effort against premier division table-toppers Wigan St Patrick’s in the third round of the North-West Counties Cup, going down to a 20-12 home defeat.

It may well have been a different story, though, had two players not been sent off early in the second half.

The two teams opened up strongly and after Pats had taken a 6-0 lead Waterhead responded with a superb Fouldes try, converted by Whitehead to level it up.

The visitors went ahead with a try and after a well-worked effort from Waterhead’s Johnson, again added to by Whitehead, once again extended their lead to 14-12 at half-time.

A converted try early in the second half preceded Waterhead being reduced to 11 men, but despite the disadvantage the division one side continued to take the game to the opposition. Forwards Aaron Webb, Nathan Mason and Jack Ford all showed up well.

JORDAN Hanley collecting four tries as Waterhead’s under-16s won 54-10 at home to Shevington Sharks.

Luc Kinder got a hat-trick and kicked seven goals, while other tries came from Liam Lewis, Jordan Curtis and Anthony Mellor.

Reddyoff back with a cup-tie treble

EWAN Reddyoff celebrated his return to fitness after a 10-month lay-off with a first-half hat-trick, helping send his Oldham St Anne’s under-15s side into the quarter-finals of the North-West Counties Cup.

In a 58-6 win over Latchford Albion Unicorns, Saints entered half-time already 22-6 up thanks to Reddyoff’s treble, one from Nick Ryan and three Martin Swaine conversions.

Ryan Bradbury (two), Ryan Powell, Ryan, Michael Lockwood and Kyle Mayall and crossed in the second half, Swaine adding six more conversions.
