Late show boosts Chaddy’s title hopes

Date published: 11 March 2009

CHADDY End FC under-15s enhanced their title ambitions in the Rochdale and Oldham Youth League with a thrilling 4-3 triumph over Littleborough.

The unbeaten teenagers left it late against their close rivals before securing their seventh success out of eight in the league this season.

Chase Harrison, Adam Harrison, Aidan Bell and Anthony Gibson scored for Chaddy End, who trail table-toppers Broadway Celtic by 10 points but boast four games in hand.

They literally handed Littleborough one of their goals as Gibson picked up the ball after believing the whistle had been blown for a goal kick. Unfortunately for the defender, the whistle was from an adjoining pitch and the referee awarded a penalty!

Red Star under-15s manager Neil Welden called it his team’s best performance for years when they came close to upsetting Heyside Juniors.

The visitors were denied a share of the spoils when Heyside captain Daniel Robertson’s 25-yard strike finished in the top corner 15 minutes from time for the only goal of the game.

Chaddy End under-12s, who lost 4-1 to Chadderton FC Juniors — Charlie Burton scored the consolation while James Tulley, Tyrell Denny, Bradley Humphreys and Louis Gilligan scored for Chadderton — and the previously unbeaten under-14s succumbed 7-5 to Northside in a thriller.
