Title glory for Springhead

Date published: 22 April 2009

SPRINGHEAD under-13s lifted the Rochdale and Oldham Youth League title after a terrific 5-1 win over Chadderton Juniors.

But they had to come from behind after some sloppy defending allowed their opponents to open the scoring.

Kyle Moore soon equalised with a long-range effort, before Kaimmen Morris put Springhead in front.

Further goals from Connor Gooseman, Morris again and Joe Hall put the game beyond Chadderton’s reach.

But Springhead’s 100-per-cent record in the league was wrecked when Heyside Juniors under-13s picked up four points from a possible six in a double-header against the recently-crowned champions.

Springhead drew the first game 4-4 after trailing 4-0 — Danny Barnes, Thomas Ireland and Kareem James (two) got the Heyside goals — but they weren’t so lucky in the second match as efforts from James and Matthew Hyman condemned them to a 2-1 defeat.

AVID Clegg and Jack Warburton weighed in with the goals as Heyside Juniors under-12s defeated Rochdale St Clements 2-0.

Matthew Dell scored from the spot but Heyside under 15s went down 4-1 to title favourites and County Cup finalists Chaddy End.

o GOALS from Jake Green (two) and Matty Singleton were in vain as Chaddy End FC under-14s were beaten 4-3 by Copperpot.

But Aiden Ball, Curtis Ingham, Michael Clune and Chase Harrison were on target as the under-14s defeated Heyside Juniors FC 4-1.

o A SHAUN Middleton treble, plus other goals from Matthew Goulding and James Tulley, yielded a 5-2 triumph for Chadderton FC Juniors under-12s against Crompton Villa.
