Last-four heartache for Saddleworth
Date published: 06 May 2009
SADDLEWORTH School’s Year Nine rugby league side missed out on a national final place in the Carnegie Champions Schools tournament after going down 50-22 to Castleford High School at Hopwood Hall, Rochdale.
The tries for Saddleworth arrived through man-of-the-match Ryan Maneely (two), Lewis Ralph and Chris Bolton, with Ben White adding three goals.
It was an improvement on last year’s 52-10 defeat to the same opposition at this stage, but Saddleworth were unable to cope with the extra size and weight of the opposition.
