Trophy time for House

THE Champions League final it isn’t. But the joy of winning a penalty shoot-out to clinch a trophy is just the same - be it Manchester United or Crompton House School. The coaches may seem laid back, but for the youngsters there is no hiding the delight after Crompton House won the Year 7 Oldham Schools final 5-3 on spot-kicks against Failsworth, at the Lancaster Club. CROMPTON House were at the double in the Oldham Schools Championship finals.
Young football talent was on show at the Lancaster Club, Failsworth, when 12 teams locked horns in the search of silverware success.
And Crompton House had two reasons to celebrate at the end of the schools’ festival .
They were crowned penalty shoot-out kings in the Year Sevens final after they defeated Failsworth Sports College 5-3 in the spot-kick decider. The game had finished 2-2.
In the Year 12s showdown, they swept aside Oldham Sixth Form College 4-1.
Blue Coat were thwarted in their attempts to pick up some silverware as they were beaten 3-2 by Failsworth Sports College in the Year Nines final.
Hulme got their name on the roll of honour after they defeated Failsworth Sports College 5-1 on penalties in the Year 10s, while the Year 11s final went to Royton and Crompton, who overcame Saddleworth 3-0.
In Year Eight, Saddleworth edged out Counthill 2-1.

Year 12s: Crompton House 4, Oldham Sixth Form College 1.
Cup-final anguish
OLDHAM Schools under-14s threw away their chance of a Greater Manchester Schools League double.
The champions had built up a 3-0 lead against Manchester in the Talbot Cup final at Ashton United — but it was a different story in the second half as they eventually succumbed to a stunning 4-3 defeat.
Oldham made a dream start when Matt Singleton (Crompton House) opened the scoring after just five minutes.
Chris Sutherland, also of Crompton House, added a second moments later.
It was one-way traffic and Oldham looked certain to lift their second piece of silverware when Sam Rathbone (Failsworth) fired home on the half hour mark.
But it was all change after the break, with Manchester scoring two quick goals.
Parity was restored midway through the second half and, with extra-time looming, Manchester completed a superb comeback with a fourth to leave Oldham thoroughly shattered.
Big total sets up Moorside win stroll
MOORSIDE racked up the runs against Heyside in the under-13s section of the Saddleworth and District Junior League.
Five players — Charlie Price, Zac Bergin, Michael Lyons, Kyle Moore and Lewis Faye — each retired on 30 as the Turf Pit Lane outfit closed on a huge 170 for one.
Heyside were bowled out for 45 in reply.
Saddleworth ‘A’, who had four players retire on 30 in Ellis Helire, Ben Corbett, Simon Hardy and Joe Boulter, reached a daunting 167 for four against Shaw.
Corbett followed up with four for 11 as Shaw were restricted to 67 for nine.
Luke Ellis hit 30 and team-mate Kieran Mayall took three for six in Austerlands’ seven-wicket win over Bamford Fieldhouse.
Clarke Robinson had a good day for Droylsden in their 14-run defeat of Glodwick, scoring an unbeaten 22 and claiming three for 11.

o IN the only under-15s fixture to beat Monday’s rain, Shaw ‘A’ beat Shaw ‘B’ by a 10-run margin.
Permission was given to play the game in the afternoon, and the ‘A’ team, thanks to a handy knock of 38 from G Sinclair, reached 96.
It then turned into the D Fullalove show as he took four for five from five overs to help restrict the reply to 86.
HEYSIDE’S Matthew Robinson hit an unbeaten 50, took five wickets with the ball — including two caught and bowled — and still finished up on the losing team in their opening under-17s match against Saddleworth.
The visitors snatched a four-wicket victory off the last ball in chasing down Heyside’s total of 111 total, in which Robinson’s team-mate Daniel Robertson was unbeaten on 40.
Austerlands, who made 109 for six, defeated Uppermill (48 for eight) by 61 runs, while Friarmere were dismissed for 68 in reply to Glodwick’s 118 all out.
Town hold nerve after fightback show
ROYTON Town under-18s displayed terrific powers of recovery to lift the Bury and Radcliffe Youth League’s Maher Cup at Gigg Lane, Bury.
They found themselves two goals down against Chadderton Park, who were seeking a league and cup double.
But Town, thanks to an own goal and a Reece Hursthouse effort, stormed back to force extra time.
With no further goals in the extra period of play, the final went to penalties and ’keeper Alex Perkins was Town’s hero — he saved two spot-kicks — as they won the shoot-out 4-2.
Rochdale and Oldham Youth League
SPRINGHEAD under-13s made smooth progress into the final of the Rochdale and Oldham Youth League Cup at the expense of Chadderton Juniors.
Top marksman Kaimmen Morris got the first two goals — he broke the deadlock with a long-range effort — before midfielder Joe Hall completed a 3-0 win after the break.
CHADDERTON FC Juniors under-12s enjoyed back-to-back wins in the league.
They recorded a 7-4 victory over Shawclough — Shaun Middleton (two), James Tulley (two), Bradley Humphreys, Harrison Grant and Dan Javed got the goals — before overcoming Kingsway 3-0. Middleton (two) and Dan Javed were again on target.
HEYSIDE Juniors under-15s completed their season with a 3-3 draw at home to champions-elect Chaddy End FC.
Matthew Dell (two) and Matthew Robinson put Heyside 2-0 and 3-1 ahead but the visitors finally levelled with five minutes to go.
The under-13s are through to the League Cup final after a 6-2 defeat of Copperpot.
On target for Heyside were Ross Morrison (three), Kareem Jones, Thomas Ireland and Lewis Ryan.
Oldham Girls League
UPPERMILL Rockettes under-16s produced a fine display in the Oldham Girls League Round Robin Cup to defeat ROCS 3-1.
Kim Buckley set the ball rolling after a mix up in defence, before captain Ellie Stanford slotted home number two from a Kim Buckley cross.
A glancing header from Natalie Jones sealed victory.
Rockettes’ second team worked hard — Becki Fleming and Lauren Gibbons both went close — but in the end they went down 5-0 to Heyside Angels.
o A GOAL from Megan Jackson clinched a 1-0 win for ROCS under-14s in a close encounter against Oldham Athletic, while Faye Hardicre bagged a brace for the under-16s in a 2-1 defeat of Heyside Clarets.

Tameside Sunday League
FAILSWORTH Town under-13s suffered penalty shoot-out agony in the Tameside Sunday League Cup final.
All square at 1-1 after extra time — Dylan Marshall scored for Town — Gamesley Villa edged the spot-kick decider 5-4 to complete a league and cup double.
Town, with three games to go, are now setting their sights on claiming runners-up spot in the division.
TWO goals apiece from Terry Lee English, Callum Howes and Liam Munro helped Sporting Derker under-13s to a 9-0 success over Uppermill in the league.
Jordan Bloor, Adam Constable and Kent Morgan completed the scoring.
North Bury Junior League
A LAST-MINUTE goal condemned Chaddy Hoppers under-13s Blue to a 2-1 defeat by Marauders Rays in the North Bury Junior League.
Cameron Rowan scored for Hoppers, for whom ’keeper Callum Freeman was named man-of-the-match.
