FINAL LINE-UP: Pictured before the Oldham Sunday League Division 2 Shield final are Rifle Range Royal Blues and Steven Caine FC.
RUNNERS-UP 12 months ago, Chaddy End FC went one better this time round when they were crowned D&J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League Jack Abbott premier division champions.
Failsworth Dynamos required two wins from their final two matches to force a play-off, but they could only draw both games.
This handed Chaddy End their first top-flight title and it also completed a notable double after they lifted the Challenge Cup earlier this month.
Dynamos, who were held to a 3-3 draw by Royton FC in their last match of the season, had to settle for second place.
There was more agony for Coppice United in a prestige occasion.
They were beaten on penalties to fellow premier division outfit Oddies in the President’s Trophy final, only days after losing to Chaddy End in the Challenge Cup.
Meanwhile, Steven Caine FC went some way to making up for the disappintment of missing out on the division two title — they finished second behind Limeside Athletic — by winning the shield competition.
They edged out the team in third place, Rife Range Royal Blues, 4-3.

Springhead second
SPRINGHEAD are assured of second place — their best finish for 12 years — in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League premier division.
The Ashfield Crescent outfit can’t catch Gregorians at the top of the table, but they are three points ahead of Walshaw Sports in third place. Both Springhead and Sports have one game to play, but Lee McAllister’s side, who fought out a 1-0 win over Elton Vale last weekend, boast a far superior goal-difference.
Dale Jackman got the only goal against Vale when he headed home a Paul Stevenson cross, but the margin of victory should have been greater as chances went begging.
Springhead’s last match of the season is against Gregorians on Saturday week when they will be hoping to complete a notable league double over the champions.
Avro ended their campaign with a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Hindsford while Royton Town wrapped up their season with a 1-1 draw at home to East Manchester on Tuesday night after they were beaten 4-3 at lowly Pennington.

Heyside crash
TRY as they might, Heyside were unable to avoid relegation from division three of the Huddersfield and District League — but they took it right down to the wire.
After overcoming Paddock 2-0 — Mark Kingsley got both goals — they needed to beat Skelmanthorpe to stay up.
But, in an extraordinary game, they went down 7-3 despite leading 3-0 with under half an hour to go.
James Taylor (two) and Joe Mannion looked to have sealed Heyside’s survival, but Skelmanthorpe stormed back, converting two penalties and scoring four goals in the final 15 minutes as the local outfit finished with nine men.
Diggle’s second string clinched the reserve division one title for the third successive year when they defeated Kirkheaton reserves 8-4 in an astonishing finale to the season.
Diggle trailed 4-1 in normal time, but hit back to equalise and then scored four times in extra-time.
Meanwhile, Uppermill first team are on the look-out for a new manager.
Matt Poulter, who was in charge last season, has stepped down as he wants to concentrate on playing.

Dog at the double
AFTER waiting 26 years for their first piece of silverware, Dog and Partridge can now celebrate a double in the Ashton Sunday League.
They added the division one title to the Vic Marsden Trophy after notching three wins in the space of a week.
Dog opened up with a 5-2 defeat of Falconers, followed by a 3-2 triumph at home to Wellington.
They clinched the championship when they overcame nearest rivals Home Guard 3-1, with Mick Jones, Gareth Cardwell and Joe Proffitt scoring the vital goals.
Halfway House, by virtue of conceding 23 goals to Bridge’s 29, held on to their premier division crown.
Despite Bridge beating Moston Labour Club 3-1 in their final game of the season — Neil Walsh, Mike King and Mick Fleming got the goals — House claimed top honours on goal difference.
House were awarded a 1-0 win in their last league fixture after opponents Warwick United failed to raise a team.
Rochdale and Oldham Youth League
SPRINGHEAD under-13s brought the curtain down on the season with a 4–1 defeat of Copperpot.
Trailing 1-0, they fought back to level through captain Josh Jones, before goals from Jordan Mortimer, Jones again and Jordan Broadbent saw Springhead ease to victory.
GOALS from Matthew Hyman, Adam Cunningham and Danny Barnes yielded a 3–1 win for Heyside Juniors under-13s over Chadderton Rangers.

Lancashire and Cheshire League
SANTOS lost 4-2 to champions Hattersley in their final division two game of the season — but they had a real go.
Behind in the first couple of minutes, the local outfit hit back to level courtesy of a Scott Watson penalty.
Santos stunned Hattersley by taking the lead when Chris Sarsfield’s free-kick was converted by the unmarked Andrew Nuttall.
It was then back to the walls stuff for Santos but, with 10 minutes to go, Hattersley drew level before scoring two late goals to clinch victory.
Santos reserves drew 3-3 at home to Staly FC.
Ability Counts League
OLDHAM ‘A’, who finished runners-up in the division, clinched the Greater Manchester Ability Counts League. Knock-out Cup.
The final, against Bury, proved a tight affair, which they eventually won 1-0.
Oldham had won their group after defeating Everton ‘A’, Rochdale and Everton ‘B’ — they also drew with Bury — before going on to beat Manchester United (AMPS) 1–0 in the last four.
Oldham ‘B’ also came second in their division.
Lancashire Amateur League
CHADDERTONIANS ‘B’ ended their season on a high after they added the ‘B’ XI Cup to the division seven title.
They defeated Lymm, who won division six, 2-0 in the final.

Lymm pushed hard for the equaliser, but Rob Fielding sealed victory.
