IT was a good weekend for the Oldham Service Area against their Salford counterparts, the local youngsters winning three of the four matches played.

The only side to experience defeat was the under-13s, who went down 16-0 at home. However, it was a committed performance that put Salford under plenty of pressure along the way.

Jack Marsden and Callan Whittaker came closest for Oldham, while Dominic Elkin and Ben Hamer also played well in a close, tense affair.

Oldham’s under-12s benefited from tries for Ryan Lynch and Billy McDermott and a goal from Adam Wells, which contributed to a 10-6 home defeat of Salford.

The margin of victory was greater for the other two local sides.

Oldham under-14s won 36-10 on the road, while the under-15s triumphed 44-12 on home soil.

In the latter encounter, Oldham were forced to recover from a shaky start before overwhelming the opposition.

Half-backs Luke Du Feu and Danny Yates worked well in tandem, second-row man Ryan Bradbury was in fine form to break the line on numerous occasions and the other stand-out performers were captain Jarrad Ward and Josh Johnson.

Try scorers for Oldham under-15s were Martin Swaine (two), Jonathan Faulds, Yates, Bradbury, Jake Shoel, Oliver Kerr, Johnson and Jack Cooke.

The town teams are in action again this weekend.

On Saturday, the under-14s (10.30am kick off) and under-15s (noon) take on Lancashire at Saddleworth, while the under-12s and under-13s are away to the same opponents at Chorley.
