Season starts with defeat

OLDHAM Schools under-13s made a disappointing start to the Lancashire Schools’ Merit League season.

They went down to a seven-wicket defeat against Bury at Woodhouses Cricket Club.

Batting first, Oldham were limited to 101 for seven from their 30 overs. Ellis Hellire (South Chadderton) led the way with a knock of 19, closely followed by Daniel Ball (Blue Coat) and Brad Cunningham (Saddleworth), who chipped in with 18 apiece.

But Bury proved too strong in the run chase as they lost just three wickets in achieving victory.

Daniel Stanley, of North Chadderton, was the pick of the Oldham bowlers, claiming two for 18.
