JAMIE SYMONDS has become the second Glodwick player to record a hat-trick in the under-13s division of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League this season.

Following on from Matthew Winterbottom’s effort last month, the young spinner bagged three wickets on the bounce in the 12-run defeat of Royton.

Jed Maudsley retired on 30 in Glodwick’s total of 107 for eight with Royton, who were guilty of bowling far too many wides, replying on 95 for six.

Dominic Scott had a good game for Saddleworth ‘B’, who swept aside Austerlands by 10 wickets.

He took three catches and returned figures of three for seven as the Thorpe Lane outfit were dismissed for 44. Tom Fleming, with 23 not out, spearheaded the Saddleworth response.

Seb Leech hit two sixes on his way to an unbeaten 29 and Henry Dyson struck a quickfire 22 as Shaw overcame Hollinwood by 28 runs.

William Brown, with 30, top-scored for Hollinwood.

Saddleworth ‘A’, the leaders, made it five wins out of five thanks to a 22-run defeat of Bamford Fieldhouse.

Moorside pair Charlie Price and Jamie Taylor both retired on 30 against Uppermill, who were skittled for just 19 in reply to 115 for three. Taylor followed up with four for one.

Dane Cullen and George Kay also retired on 30 apiece as Droylsden posted a 22-run win over Heyside.

Phew! Moorside are off the mark

MOORSIDE are up and running in the under-15s section of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League — but it was a close call.

Needing 69 to win, the lads from Turf Pit Lane edged out Stayley by one wicket.

L Buckley scored 27 for Stayley.

There was also a first victory of the season, by a six-wicket margin, for Shaw ‘B’ against an Uppermill side who were bowled out for 28.

Shaw’s ‘A’ team still lead the way after thanks to a 40-run defeat of mid-table Bamford Fieldhouse.

Drew Fullalove, with 48, led the way for Shaw, who accumulated 114 for seven.

It then turned into the Jacob Hughes show, the youngster claiming five for 17 from his three overs as Bamford succumbed to 74 all out.

Hot on Shaw’s heels are Heyside ‘A’ and Saddleworth ‘A’.

The former lost only one wicket as they bettered Glodwick’s total of 100 for six.

As for Saddleworth, A Smalley was unbeaten on 43 in a seven-wicket win at Austerlands.

Luke Du Feu retired on 50 for the hosts, but his efforts in lifting the score to 86 for six were in vain.

Droylsden’s A Evans hit 51, but again it was to no avail as Saddleworth ‘B’ eased home by seven wickets.

Stand-out performers for Saddleworth were Edward Crowther, with took three for five, and Tom Woolley, who was 40 not out.

Meanwhile, in the first round of the Leicester Shield, Bamford overcame Moorside and will play the winners of the all Saddleworth tie.

Teamwork pays off

A SUPERB team effort from Oldham under-13s clinched an eight-wicket victory at previously unbeaten leaders Milnrow.

Taking first knock, Milnrow scored 113 from their 20 overs, but solid batting from Phillip Kenyon (22), Liam Hodgkinson (27 retired), Ben Davis Rice (27 not out) and Joseph Harrison Brown (15 not out) steered Oldham past the winning post with five balls to spare.

Parfitt’s heroics in Vain

OLDHAM Schools under-13s slipped to their second Lancashire Schools’ Merit League defeat of the season when they went down by 25 runs to Rochdale at Littleborough CC.

The home side amassed a daunting 218 for eight.

Oldham gave it a good go in reply. Rishworth’s Liam Parfitt lead the way with a fine knock of 78, but the youngster’s effort wasn’t quite enough as the town team were eventually dismissed for 193.

The under-13s are hoping to make it third time lucky in the league when they visit Tameside on Friday.
