MATT JACKSON scored a hat-trick for Saddleworth’s Year Seven side, who defeated Blue Coat 48-0 in the Oldham schools’ rugby final at Manor Park.
Other scorers for the victorious side were Aaron Longley (two), Dan Fairfoul (two), Jonny Aspin, Billy McDermott and captain Paul Ainsworth, with goals coming from Ainsworth (three) and Will Revill in an impressive all-round team performance.
Blue Coat’s Year Eight team made up for that heavy defeat by seeing off Saddleworth, whose tries came from Adam Wardle, Jed Mawdsley and Tom Mills, 36-12.
Counthill overcame Saddleworth 38-12 in the Year Nine final, racing to an early 14-0 lead from which the opposition never recovered.
It was Saddleworth’s first defeat to any team from the North-West in four years.
In the Year 10 final, Counthill again overcame Saddleworth 34-26, with players on both sides picking up hat-tricks.
While Jarrod Ward’s effort for Saddleworth was ultimately in vain, Danny Yates’s own triple strike helped Counthill to victory in an epic encounter in which the lead changed hands four times.
