COUNTHILL School were left celebrating a double success after defeating rivals Saddleworth in both the Year Nine and Year 10 Oldham Schools’ rugby finals.
The Year Nine team did what no other team from the North-West has managed in four years and defeated Saddleworth, the 38-12 victory coming after Counthill took an early 14-0 advantage to set the team on their way.
A hat-trick from Danny Yates helped Counthill’s Year 10 team win 34-26, with Jarrod Ward’s own treble not enough to help his Saddleworth side edge it in an exciting game in which the lead changed hands four times.
