HEYSIDE ‘A’ are riding high in the under-15s section of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
Victory by an 80-run margin over Bamford Fieldhouse, who were bowled out for 58, lifted the Little Hey Street lads to the head of the table.
Shaw ‘A’ were knocked off top spot after they suffered a first defeat of the season against nine-man Stayley.
In a rehearsal for next week’s Leicester Shield semi-final, the Holebottom Clough outfit struggled to 91 all out.
Stayley reached their target for the loss of four wickets. M Charlottes was unbeaten on 55.
Droylsden secured the narrowest of wins against Glodwick.
Bowled out for 103, the Oakfield side restricted their opponents to 102 for nine, despite 38 from Tom Hindley.
Moorside, the hosts, dismissed Austerlands for 84. Luke Ellis scored 25.
However, they were then skittled out for 56, with Andrew Cadd claiming excellent figures of five for 21.
Title-chasers Saddleworth ‘A’ posted a formidable 144 for seven against neighbours Uppermill.
Andrew Jackson hit 38 and then picked up three for four as Uppermill managed only 61 in reply.
Shaw ‘B’ secured only their second win of the season in a dramatic finish at home to Heyside ‘B’.
Danny Cooper struck a rapid 23 as Shaw were bowled out for 91, but Heyside seemed set for victory after a stand of 56 from Jordan Whyatt (39) and Graham Bardsley carried them to 77 for three with six overs to go.
However, some superb fielding, which included two good catches by Sam Clark, and accurate bowling from Elliott Birtwistle (four for 17 from five overs) restricted the visitors to 87 for eight.
Scores —
Shaw ‘A’ 91, Stayley 96-4; Droylsden 103, Glodwick 102-9; Austerlands 84, Moorside 56; Saddleworth ‘B’ 144-7, Uppermill 61; Shaw ‘B’ 91, Heyside ‘B’ 87-8; Heyside ‘A’ 138, Bamford Fieldhouse 58.
THE outstanding second-round tie in the Leicester Shield, between Saddleworth ‘A’ and Bamford Fieldhouse, will take place on Tuesday.
Austerlands will await the winners two days later at Thorpe Lane.
Howard knock to no avail
SADDLEWORTH ‘A’ recorded a 10-wicket win over Saddleworth ‘B’ in the under-13s division.
Ten-year-old James Howard hit 20 for the ‘B’ team in a total of 59 for seven.
But 30 from Harry Gee and 20 from Ellis Helire saw their club rivals pass the post in six overs.
Despite 30 apiece from Jed Maudsley and James Fowles — the latter deposited three sixes on to the bowling green — Glodwick (102 for three) were unable to overhaul Moorside’s score of 121 for four.
Charlie Price reached 30 for the hosts.
Shaw, after making 98 for three, restricted Austerlands to 54 for eight.
Lewis Roach scored 20 for Austerlands
Jack Graham compiled 26 and Tom Robinson took two for one as Heyside (93 for eight) bowled out Royton for 68.
Hollinwood were dismissed for 36 against Bamford Fieldhouse, for whom Luke Grimes grabbed three for 14 and Callum Openshaw was outstanding behind the stumps.
Bamford had earlier reached 114 for six, with Matthew Buckley and Alex Willis each retiring on 30.
The game between Droylsden and Uppermill was called off because of an unfit ground.
