Girls lead the way to victory

OLDHAM Amateur Swimming Club continued their winning ways with a fine 57-50 success against Ashton in the Central Lancashire Junior League at Ashton Pool.

In the 10 and under age group the girls team of Emily Fox, Olivia Green, Ffion Miller and Abbie Mellor had a hat-trick of wins in the freestyle medley and breaststroke/freestyle relays.

For the boys, Dylan Arzoni, Jamie Marsden, Daniel Fearnley and Julian Capper won both the freestyle and breaststroke/freestyle relays.

Caitlin Wareing, Bethany Fox, Lucy Ireland and Rhiannon Prestage were winners of the 14 years and under freestyle. Chloe Basnett replaced Beth Fox in the breaststroke/freestyle team which also won The medley relay team of Rhiannon Prestage, Caitlin Wareing and Chloe Basnett and Beth Fox made it a hat-trick of wins for the girls.

The boys team of Peter Cunningham, Jordan Roberts, Oliver Coverley and Sam Hill were winners of the freestyle relay.

In the 16 years and under age group, Hannah Clegg, Sophie Kenny, Jess Fullalove and Vicky Burgess won all three relays.

Oldham secured victory by winning nine of the 12 mixed relays.

Ffion Miller, Daniel Fearnley, Olivia Green, and Dylan Arzoni were winners of the 10 years and under breaststroke/freestyle, with Emily Fox, Daniel Fearnley, Abbie Mellor and Julian Capper triumphing in the medley. Daniel Fearnley, Olivia Green, Abbie Mellor and Dylan Arzoni made it a clean sweep in the freestyle.

Beth Peak, Kyle Clegg, Honor Miller and Sam Marsden won the breaststroke/freestyle at 12 and under.

The 14 years and under team of Jessica Fullalove, Peter Cunningham, Rhiannon Prestage and Sam Hill won their freestyle, with Chloe Basnett, Oliver Coverley, Rhiannon Prestage and Jordan Roberts triumphing in the breaststroke/freestyle.

Success was also achieved by Rhiannon Prestage, Oliver Coverley, Jessica Fullalove and Sam Hill in the mixed medley.

Jess Fullalove, Damien Bradley, Vicky Burgess and Harry Entwistle won the 16 and under medley, with Ash Ratchford, Sophie Kenny, Ian Martin and Vicky Burgess winning the freestyle.

In the Manchester and District League, Oldham hosted Bolton, Stretford and Altrincham and finished second to a fine Bolton team.

The 9/10 years boys team of Daniel Fearnley, Henry Coverley, Dylan Arzoni and Julian Capper had a hat-trick of victories in the freestyle, medley and squad relays.

In the 11/12 years age group Bethany Peak, Caitlin Wareing, Honor Miller and Olivia Askew also had a hat-trick of wins.

Rhiannon Prestage, Chloe Basnett, Hannah Clegg and Jessica Fullalove won both the 13/14 years squad and medley relays and finished second in the freestyle.

The boys team of Ian Martin, Oliver Coverley, Peter Cunningham and Jordan Roberts were victorious in the medley relay and second in the squad relay.

In the mixed cannon relay, comprising a swimmer from each of the age groups, Fleur Mitchell, Dylan Arzoni, Olivia Askew, Kyle Clegg, Rhiannon Prestage and Ian Martin were just edged out into second place.

Overall: Bolton 88 points, Oldham 77 points, Stretford 58, Altrincham 24.
