HEYSIDE JFC under-nines completed a hat-trick of tournament titles in the Avro Juniors competition held at The Lancaster Club.
They impressed from the start, topping their group without conceding a goal, before comfortably disposing of Failsworth West ‘A’ in the last four.
The final, against Middleton Lads, ended goalless, but Heyside held their nerve to win the penalty shoot-out 5-4.
Jack Dunkerley, Adam Dunkerley, Saul Milovanovic, Sulaiman Sajjad and Jack Cocker were all successful from the spot, before Sajjad saved Middleton’s fifth attempt to clinch Heyside the spoils.
Kieren May picked up an injury in the last-four tie — it was subsequently revealed that he had broken his big toe — and missed the final.
There was success for Heyside on the individual front as well. Defender Charlie Johnson was named player of the tournament.
